Alden Biesen
800 Years of History and Inspiration in a Premier Castle Domain
Founded in 1220 by the Teutonic knights, the Grand Commandery played a leading role as an economically, religiously and culturally significant centre during the first six centuries; a role that still applies 800 years later.
Since 1971, Alden Biesen has been owned by the Flemish Government. As one of the largest castle domains in the Euroregion, the Grand Commandery is currently an inspiring site for receptive cultural and congress experience. Annually a quarter of a million visitors from home and abroad visit the site and 500+ activities take place, ranging from small meetings and seminars to larger congresses and festivals.
